About Performance Driving School

Venue Development Inc. was founded in 1996 to offer Viper drivers – Viper Days - a safe and fun venue in which to learn the limits of their cars while expanding their knowledge of high speed driving techniques.  Now in 2006 we have expanded to offer The Performance Driving School to owners of high performance cars.  This school specializes in high end, late model performance vehicles. i.e. Dodge Vipers, Corvette Z06, Ford GT and Pontiac GTO to name a few.

School & Safety

This is not racing, it is a school and safety is the most important objective of the school.  We utilize a state of the art timing system to grid students by time, thereby minimizing passing.  Our instructors are familiar with high performance cars and their unbelievable torque, and know how to teach the proper techniques for staying on the track and driving safely. The driving school offers owners specific classroom sessions as well as in car instruction for all students. All students communicate with their instructor by means of a headset that allows for easy instruction.

All you have to do is listen and learn the techniques we will offer to you throughout the weekend and then do them over and over again! A comprehensive training manual is provided to all students and is structured to take you for rookie to racing.

We also have a nutritionist on  staff at all events to assist in you food and water management program for track events.

Positive Impact

We strive to make a positive impact on the lives of owners and their families by teaching proper car handling and defensive driving techniques, specifically for the performance vehicles.  The most critical aspects of our teaching cannot be obtained from textbooks or inside school cars that do not resemble your car in terms of power to weight ratio, throttle response, cornering attitude, etc.  The most effective method of instruction is inside the owner’s own car.

TRACKS

The events, which take place at tracks across the country that have been selected for their design and safety, give drivers the unique opportunity to learn how to drive their Viper on a track at speed with no oncoming or cross traffic!  Each of the events features two days of a high speed driving and intense classroom that is Viper specific.  At the successful completion of each event, drivers may be awarded a certificate that will allow them to compete in the Michelin Challenge Series, if they so choose.

DRIVING SCHOOL

Drivers are placed in one of three run groups depending on their track experience.  Rookies are required to have an instructor at all times and attend classroom.  Advanced drivers will be offered the opportunity to attend advanced classes that will be offered.

The driver’s cars are placed in one of seven classes depending on the car, the modifications and the performance upgrades. You then have the opportunity to participate in the Challenge Series which is a solo timed session and within your class we utilize a timed format, earning points towards the trophies that are awarded three deep for all classes. Then accumulate your points at three events during the year and come to the National Finals to be held in the fall of the year.

All participants are invited to attend the Finals that are held in the fall of each year to determine the national champions for each class. Trophies are abundant for the Finals and are spectacular!

In addition to the Performance Driving School and Challenge Series, attendees have a chance to get answers to their performance questions, see the latest new products and shop for that special item among the vendors.

Hendrick Car Mall, California Cheese Company, Michelin North America, Hoosier Tire Company, Whelen Engineering, Viper Club of America, Archer Racing Accessories, Bobby Archer Motorsports, Autoform Development, Corsa, Forgeline Wheels, Motul, Mopar, Moton Shocks, RaceTech, Renegade, StopTech, and K&N have provided sponsorship for Viper Days.  Sponsor representatives are available at most events to meet with the participants and field their inquires.

Young Drivers Program

The “Young Drivers” program is specifically designed for young drivers to teach them defensive driving techniques and how to drive safely on a track and to use these new skills to be a safer driver everyday.  We are extremely pleased with the results of those that have attended. As one father stated, “My son has amazed me and does not speed on the streets anymore! He wants to come to the track with me and I have said “yes” but you must make all “B’s” on your report card and you can join me.  He has done it and that has never happened before. It is a great program and I hope you get to teach more kids how to drive and respect speed.”

New for 2006 is the addition of a school specifically designed for the new SRT-4 Neons. With the support of Dodge there will be technicians available to answer any questions about this new car and explain all the products available from Mopar for upgrades.

The Michelin Challenge Series will welcome these Neons to come and participate in one of two classes throughout the year.

TRAINING & INSTRUCTION

Not only is this the most effective training technique, but also the least expensive for the student.  Most high performance driving schools charge their students approximately $800-$1,000 per day and put their students in cars that don't exhibit the handling characteristics or driving techniques required of a Viper.  Our students take the class in their own car, pay less than $300 per day. The Performance Driving School provides a $100 discount for first time school participants.

Instruction is provided for beginning, intermediate and advanced drivers through a combination of on-track and classroom sessions.  The classroom is performance specific with guest speakers and topics about maintenance, set-up, track analysis and corner analysis. To maximize safety and provide a comfortable learning environment, each student is placed in the rookie group until the student needs to be advanced. Instructors communicate with the student by way of a helmet communication system, no yelling or hand signals. Lap times are carefully monitored for each student to assure they are properly placed on track with drivers of equal skill.  Adjustments are made throughout the weekend to maintain maximum spacing of cars on track.  Restrictions on passing are strictly enforced.  Professional corner workers are present at all crucial flag stations.  Professional medical and rescue personnel are always present.  Med+Stats is required for all participants to ensure maximum protection. Class size is strictly limited to assure maximum quality and quantity of track time.

vendors

Performance-specific vendors are present at each event to assist participants with tires, brakes, safety, and other trackside maintenance services.  Archer Racing Accessories from Duluth, MN attends every event and supports all participants so that they have a safe and learning experience all weekend.  Their motto is “No one should miss track time!”  Bobby Archer Motorsports is also in attendance at every event to provide tire sales and mounting and offers safety equipment.

A Performance Dring School weekend

To recap a typical PDS weekend; it consists of high speed, in car, driving instruction; classroom lectures, guest speakers and approximately four hours of track time.  Off the race track, the reception party, catered lunches, and banquet dinner offers the drivers a chance to talk/brag about their day of driving.  As the day comes to a close, on Saturday, everyone gets together, at the banquet, to see if they are the lucky ones who will win the door prizes!  By the end of the weekend, all of the drivers are worn out from all the track time and have enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow drivers. The driving experience will continue to make all graduates safer drivers!
